Join Us in Discovering & Exploring Kemper Woods September 18, 2021
Come join the Chippewa County Land Conservancy together with the Chippewa County Land Conservation Department as we host an event celebrating Kemper Woods. Kemper Woods natural area is 80 acres of forested upland adjacent to the Chippewa Falls/Eau Claire metro area in the Village of Lake Hallie. Overlooking 630 acres that comprise Hallie Marsh, the Kemper Woods has over 2.7 miles of maintained trails that offer a perfect opportunity to discover and explore this special natural place. On Saturday September 18, from 10 am until 12 pm there will be a 1 mile guided nature hike for adults and a scavenger hunt for the kids. Light refreshments will be available and we recommend bringing bug spray and wearing appropriate hiking attire. As Covid 19 is once again trending up, we will be following CDC guidelines for outdoor events.
Since 1953 Dr. Charles Kemper, a retired family practice doctor extensively monitored and recorded valuable information about migratory birds in Kemper Woods. Dr. Kemperβs greatest wish was to preserve this beautiful forest in its natural state for generations to enjoy. Through his own generosity, many donations from the local community, and grants from the County and State, he worked with the Conservancy and local government to devise a plan to permanently protect his property. In 2008 his wish came true. Kemper Woods is now protected for all of us for all time.
In years past, the Chippewa County Land Conservancy has participated in Wisconsin Land Trust Days, a program organized by Gathering Waters for land trusts throughout the state. This series of events promotes #havefunoutside while celebrating the protection of Wisconsin's land, water, and wildlife. Wisconsin land trusts are dedicated to protecting Wisconsin's unique character and providing places for people and wildlife to flourish.
The entrance to the property is at 15459 50th Avenue in Chippewa Falls. For further directions see the attached map. We hope you will join us and #havefunoutside!
