It is Earth Day, and everywhere people are taking part in cleanups and other projects, watching special programs either celebrating the earth or thinking deeply about such things as climate change, extinction, green energy, etc.

This year’s theme is "Invest in our planet”. Here’s a free investment tip: invest your time and talents to help on an ongoing basis.

Chippewa County Land Conservancy has a wonderful group of members who annually re-commit to the cause of protecting natural landscapes in Chippewa County when they renew their membership. 

But to be honest, we haven't offered a large number of ways for members and friends to invest their time and talents in other ways. We have occasionally asked for help pulling buckthorn, building trails, planting seed, and this year's birdathon is our third such event. 

Here's an idea: this Earth Day, ask yourself what might you do to help protect land. You have a talent, skill, or interest to bring to bear, and many organizations are just waiting to hear your ideas. 

If you are wondering how you can help Chippewa Conservancy, here are some idea starters:

Trail work, mailing help, photography, drawing, fundraising, site stewardship, invasive plant management, adopt-a-site, bio-surveys, mapping, writing, video work, technology support, newsletter help, hike leader, youth hike leader, community outreach, board service, talk to your friends, just show up! Our volunteers do it all, independently and with others! 

Chances are you might be the first to want to help in this manner, so you might even get to design your own job.

Our job is to enable you to achieve your desire to protect the earth. If you aren't on our radar, we won't know you are there!

And like all investing programs, start small, but make regular investments for big rewards.

We can’t wait to see what time, talents, and interests are among our supporters waiting to be unleashed, and what dividends their investments in the Earth will yield for them, and for everyone.
